Church Policies

H1N1 Policy

When any of our local school districts close due to H1N1 (that would be Middleton–Cross Plains, Madison, or Verona Area) we will also cancel all youth activities. Worship will continue, but the ending of the service will be modified from sharing the peace to simply a dismissal “Go in peace, remember the sick, serve the Lord.” In addition, the peace will be changed to a dismissal if local hospitals, nursing homes or other public agencies are closed or quarantined due to H1N1. During these periods we will also engage volunteers sanitize doors handles, restrooms, and phones at the conclusion of all events. We encourage anyone with flu like symptoms to remain home, and will provide necessary pastoral care to the sick. We will also follow the recommendations of the federal, state, and local health authorities.

Child Safety/Background Check Policy

All adults who have more than a passing contact with children but especially Sunday School and VBS teachers/staff will be subject to a background check. If they choose to not have a check run they will not be allowed to work with the children.  We will do a National Criminal Search and Sexual Offender Search. In addition, we will do a DMV Driver Search on any adult who will be transporting children/youth for events. Results will be known by only the Pastor/Youth Director/Council President.  All results will be kept under locked conditions and will be confidential. Anyone with a criminal conviction or a pending criminal charge involving children will be excluded from working with children.  Everyone working with children will be subject to a background check every two years at minimum.  Everyone expressing interest in working with our children/youth must complete an “employment application.” This includes both paid staff and volunteers. The application includes: A statement which the applicant should acknowledge, in writing, certifying that the statements provided in the application are true and complete and that any misrepresentation or omission may be grounds for rejection of the applicant or for dismissal if they are an employee. This acknowledgment should also authorize WMLC to contact any individual or organization listed in the application; Current and previous residence addresses; and Pending criminal charges (where not prohibited by state law). All statements made in the application will be reviewed.
